Comcast To Use Invidi

Comcast is planning to deploy Invidi's advertising targeting system to 100,000 homes in Baltimore by June. Heavily financed Invidi, based in Princeton, allows television ads to be targeted to individual households, which is kind of scary. It is the first major rollout of Invidi's technology that I am aware of.

Court Agrees to Stay FCC's New "E911" Standards (Reuters via New York Times)
Not particularly good news for TruePosition of Berwyn, I would think. One of their main selling points is that their cell tower triangulation method is more precisely accurate than GPS. My guess is that E911 systems of the future will be mostly a hybrid of the two. The DC Appeals Court, in citing "procedural irregularities" in the FCC proceedings, may raise further questions about FCC Commissioner Kevin Martin's competency or fairness.

The 12th Annual Wharton India Economic Forum Concludes Successfully in Philadelphia (BusinessWire)

I've been working on identifying and better understanding the different segments of the IT business in Greater Philadelphia. There are obviously key technologies, applications, and vertical markets which drive much of the activity here. There are also phrases and acronyms that people use to refer to these things in shorthand. I know it can be confusing to people who are generalists (as I am) or specialize in certain areas, so I thought I'd build a little glossary of terms that seem to be most important here.
Right now it is based on Wikipedia entries, which are good in some cases and not so good in others. If anyone has suggestions on better sources, don't hesitate to let me know. This list will grow over time, though I intend to keep it as targeted to Philadelphia as possible. It will be posted on the right sidebar.

Philadelphia's First Round Capital has been busy, as usual. Three companies originally seeded by First Round completed significant follow-on rounds. Mint, a well-publicized Silicon Valley personal online financial management firm, received $12.1 million in a third round. First Round particapated in all three current rounds.
33Across, a New York “stealth-mode company developing revolutionary technology to identify influential online users”, closed a seed funding round led by First Round.
