New York State hearings on Comcast/TWC deal kick off Monday

The New York Public Service Commission (PSC) is holding hearings on the proposed Comcast-Time Warner Cable deal this week. Hearings are scheduled for Amherst (Buffalo) on Monday evening, Albany on Wednesday and New York City on Thursday. In each session, there will be a public information session at six, and a formal public hearing for receiving testimony and comments at 7:30pm.

As I wrote previously, former Philly tech executive Audrey Zibelman (Viridity Energy, PJM Interconnection) now serves as chair of the NY PSC and will oversee the hearings.

I haven't been able to find out yet whether any hearings are planned by Pennsylvania regulators, but I would doubt that Comcast is too worried by that prospect.

Last week, US House Commerce Subcommittee on Communications chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) said the subcommittee wasn't planning to hold hearings on either the Comcast or AT&T deals, although Democrats have asked for hearings.

In New York State, Time Warner Cable has 2.6 million subscribers, while Comcast has only
23,000.
