I'm wondering out loud whether this my have been a bit of a faux paus on Mr. McDermott's part. "Jewel in the Crown" was the
phrase the British used to refer to the importance of India to the British Empire. I doubt the Indian people want their relationship to SAP compared to their relationship to the British Empire.
