The 2008 Information Week 500 came out recently. I have some questions about how they determine it. Several on the list, including Boscov's, Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers, WaMu, and Wachovia went bust or nearly bust recently. While these occurences weren't primarily the fault of IT, certainly one of the reasons you invest in such systems is to try and stay in business. The IW 500 is generally weighted toward larger corporations rather than smaller companies that may employ more cutting edge technologies.
Philadelphia area companies in the top 250 (which are individually ranked) are Harleysville Group (30), Vanguard Group (33), Air Products & Chemicals (67), PHH Arval (76), Wyeth Labs (88), AmerisourceBergen (127), Jones Apparel Group (148), Cigna (192), Heartland Payment Systems (210) Penske Truck Leasing (215), VRW International (219), Aramark (231), and Boscov's (241).
Others in the top 500 are AmeriGas, Ametek, Burlington Coat Factory, CDI Corp, Charming Shoppes, Ikon Office Solutions, QVC, SAP, SES Americom, Teleflex, Tyco Electronics and Unisys.
Many others on the list have a substantial presence in the Philly area.
I'd be interested in any user feedback on how this list stacks up, or who else should have been included.
