Report: Comcast acquires VoIP firm

The blog Von is reporting that Comcast has agreed to acquire privately held VoIP provider New Global Telecom. Von cites an internal Comcast email sent by Comcast president of business services Bill Stemper. NGT, based in Golden, CO, is "one of the nation’s largest providers of wholesale hosted and trunk-based VoIP solutions", Stemper says in the email. In October of last year, Comcast acquired Chicago-area CLEC Cimco Communications. More moves had been expected by Comcast in the business telecom market.

Blue Bell's UniTek to combine with Berliner Communications

Blue Bell telecommunications services company UniTek USA will combine with Berliner Communications to become UniTek Global Services, Inc. The unified company projects annual revenue of about $360 million. While UniTek is not now publicly traded, Berliner is currently listed on the OTC market (OTC: BERL ) and the new company will assume that listing under the UniTek name.
UniTek private equity backer HM Capital Partners will control approximately 80% of the combined entity. C. Scott Hisey, Founder and CEO of UniTek USA, will become CEO of the Company. Peter Giacalone, President of UniTek USA, has been appointed Chairman of the Company.
