Pharma Week

This could be called "Pharma Week" in Philadelphia. In town are the ePharma Summit at the Hyatt Regency at Penn's Landing, the Clinical Trials Conference at Loews, the DIA Conference for Electronic Data Management at the Downtown Marriot, and Pharmaceutical Managed Markets Insights & Marketing for the Pharmaceutical Industry, also at the Loews. There may be a couple of smaller conferences I"m missing, as well.
Philly area Healthcare IT vendors are probably very busy giving demos or presentations, or meeting with clients and potential clients. There is also bound to be plenty of conversation about the prospects for further consolidation in Pharma in the wake of the Pfizer/Wyeth deal, as well as the implications of Obama administration policy towards Healthcare and Healthcare IT.
While Healthcare IT proponents are generally enthusiastic about the $20 billion directed towards it in the stimulus bill, I would be wary about the extent to which provisions of the bill may centralize control of a National Healthcare IT architecture at the Federal level. That could be a recipe for disaster.
